Welcome to Space City PaddleFest!!
Date: April 9th, 2016
Time: First Race @ 9am
Location: Clearlake Park - 5001 E NASA Pkwy Seabrook, TX 77586
Join us for the First Annual Space City Paddlefest hosted by Team Hokulele, the most active and dynamic paddling club in the state. Since Hokulele members paddle multiple craft and participate in multiple paddling disciplines, this race highlights the soul and mission of the club. The club is staging four races for different paddle craft and skill levels. All of these events will be staged from the accommodating and user-friendly grounds of Clear Lake Park in Seabrook, TX on the shores of Mud Lake. For those novice and recreational paddlers, there will be a 5K course (2 laps of 2.5K) held on Mud Lake. This event will be for all types of craft, SUP, OC-1, SurfSki, C1, C2, and sea kayak. For the marathon canoe paddlers, there will be a 13 mile race that starts and finishes on Mud Lake and winds its way out and back through the beautiful and remote (for Houston) Armand Bayou watershed. For the SUP paddlers, there will be a 10K course that starts and finishes on Mud Lake with 75% of the race taking place on the ever changing waters of Clear Lake. For the Ocean Canoe and Kayak paddlers, there will be an 8 mile race starting and finishing on Mud Lake. Too, this course will run primarily on Clear Lake and depending on the wind conditions and boat traffic on the day could be a flat water slog or a challenging, bumpy workout.
Since Hokulele's roots are in the aloha of outrigger canoe paddling, participants will be extended the hospitality of the sport. The races will be supported with safety escort. All participants will receive a commemorative race t-shirt and top finishers in designated divisions will receive custom designed medals.
Clear Lake Park is a great venue to host such a paddling festival. It offers ample parking, restrooms, playground equipment for the keikis (little ones), ball fields, ample area to spread out a blanket and lawn chairs to make for an enjoyable day on/ around the water and at the park! Join us for what will be a memorable day!!
