Preparing Your Home for Holiday Guests

Isn’t it great to have friends and family over for a holiday dinner. How many people are you expecting? Is this their first time visiting your home? What menu should you set? Is your home in dire need of cleaning? Many such questions appear in the mind as we have to give them welcoming vibes and not let them avoid accepting the next invitation. You also want to make your home as safe as possible, so you don’t find yourself on the wrong side of a personal injury lawsuit!

The below suggestions will help you in preparing your home for holiday guests.

Make a To-Do List

You have invited a bunch of guests, and your house needs to look more inviting. So, hurry up and make a list of everything you need to get done.

From ingredients and scented candles to new towels and everything in between, there’s a lot you’ll need if you’re hosting a dinner with a lot of people. You’ll also need to clean up around the house so there’s enough room for everyone to lounge around before and after dinner.

Schedule the Time to Prepare Your Home

When such an event is due, you put yourself under pressure. You’re probably wondering, ‘what if I don’t get things done in time?’ Relax; your anxiety will ruin the mood and housework. Don’t push yourself. After all, it’s your home, and you know it better than anyone, so rest assured that you’ll be able to pull this off.

If you have a big house and cannot possibly dust and vacuum solo, then ring up your house help or outsource a cleaning team from an agency to get the work done quickly.

Are you Well-Stocked?

Do you want to save yourselves from the embarrassment when the guests ask you for towels, tissues, hand washing gel, or anything else? For that, head straight to the grocery store to see what your house is missing. There is no harm in making sure you have everything that your guests may need when they come for dinner. Whether it’s coffee, band aids, or Aspirin — make sure you have some on hand.

Add some Personalized Touches

Yes, how about adding some personalized touches? When guests come from near and far, it’s likely that some of them are visiting your house for the very first time — even more if you’ve just moved. If they’re early, make them feel at home by preparing a cup of coffee or giving them a blanket in case they’re cold. If you’re up for it, share the WiFi password as well.

De-clutter your home

Time and again, emphasis is being given to de-cluttering your home. No guests want to enter a messy home with clothes all over the sofas and shoes scattered near the entrance.

Another idea that can work out for you is to rearrange your furniture to increase space in your rooms, especially the ones which are smaller as compared to others. Nice, right? By doing this, your guests won’t feel suffocated and will feel free to move around the house.

Swipe away that trash, hang creative frames in your dining area, and put up pictures with your family to give an appealing look.

Set the Guest Bedroom

When you’re hosting a dinner, you wouldn’t want guests snooping around your bedroom while looking for something like extra towels. So, it’s best to keep your guest room ready and stocked with anything they may need. Take this opportunity to see if your guest room is set up in case any of your guests decide to stay the night. Whether your guests helped you clean up after dinner or you didn’t realize how late it had gotten when you decided to reminisce about old times, you may want to consider letting them stay the night, especially if they live on the other side of town.

You can prepare the guest bedroom by flipping the mattress, changing the sheets and pillow covers, cleaning the dust from the tables and drawers, placing fresh flowers in the vase, and checking if all the lights are functioning or not.

There is more to come, as you have the bathroom to look after too. Hang fresh towels, keep a new tube of toothpaste, and add a scented candle here too.

If the weather gets super chilly in your area, you wouldn’t want your guests to shiver throughout the night. So, make sure that you prepare blankets as well.

Check the Kitchen

When guests are coming over for dinner, you can’t expect everyone to love your cooking. It’s possible that they’ll think it’s too bland or doesn’t have enough seasoning.

Maybe no one uses condiments at your house, but what about your guests? So, make sure to have common condiments, dressings, and seasoning on hand.

Check if you have sufficient cutlery like spoons, forks, knives, or dessert bowls. You don’t want to be stressing out at the last minute, only to offer your guests mismatching bowls that you found in the corner of your cabinets.

Plus there will be children, too. Make sure to let your guests know what you can and can’t accommodate, so they can make arrangements beforehand.

What About Your Furry Friend?

If you have pets, where will you keep them during dinnertime? It’s possible that having so many people will scare them, so make sure to prepare a comfortable space for them in your bedroom, with food, water, toys, and a litter box (if needed).

Final Thoughts

While the above-mentioned suggestions are all great ways to accommodate guests during a holiday dinner, there’s always a risk of experiencing injuries when you’re on someone else’s property. If you’re in a similar situation and are seeking legal assistance, consider contacting an injury attorney for assistance.
