How to Clean Your Industrial Doors Properly

A great industrial door should be designed to last. That is why most rolling doors are built from pre-galvanized steel to be durable, sturdy, and corrosion-resistant. However, according to an industrial doors manufacturing company, industrial doors may need cleaning once in a while.

After all, these doors are gateways to your business, with the potential of making a remarkable first impression on employees, visitors, or investors. On the other hand, if you don’t take care of your doors, they can have a negative impact. When looking after an industrial space, it may be simple to overlook the doors. But here is why cleaning your industrial doors is vital and how you can do it to make the best impression out of your business from the get-go.

How to Clean Your Industrial Doors Properly?

Washing an industrial door is essential for the usual build-up of everyday dirt or a general clean. Industrial doors generally take a battering over their long lives, whether from extreme weather, vandalism, general wear and tear, or an accident. While in extreme cases, they may need a complete repair, cosmetic damage and dirt can usually be cleaned up.

1. Steel Industrial Doors

An industrial steel door can be cleaned using a sponge or cloth in a mild cleaning solution. If the steel door is mildew-stained, use a soft-bristled brush instead. Start from the bottom and work your way up, but if the door is already rusty, you may need to use an anti-rust solution and a softer brush.

2. Aluminium Industrial Doors

To clean an aluminum industrial door, you should make a solution from warm water and vinegar using a ratio of one tablespoon of vinegar to two cups of water. Then wet a non-abrasive pad or a cloth with this solution and gently wipe down the aluminum door’s surface. Under no circumstance should you use a pressure cleaner to clean an aluminum door, as it can result in dents or ripples. If any erosion occurs, make sure to use a special chemical solution supplied by industrial door professionals.

If you notice some stubborn stains or marks, feel free to use a plastic brush or more abrasive nylon. However, be careful, as too much abrasion can damage the door and lead to scratches. Instead, use a more robust cleaner.

What about cleaning scuffs and scratches? Shallow scratches or scuffs can be easily cleaned with a scratch remover that you would use on a car. Firstly, ensure the industrial door is dry, then get a clean cloth to rub over the scratch. This will generally hide the scratch as it will remove the first layer of paint. Then wipe it down with a clean cloth. If there are more severe scratches, you should get in touch with a professional to guarantee a clean finish. Ultimately, for scuffs and scratches on exposed metal, it is best to sand them down with metal sandpaper.

3. Roll-Up Industrial Doors

When it comes to cleaning roll-up industrial doors, try to be as careful as possible, as they might catch on your fingers. Use furniture polish and a soft cloth to dust between the slats while the roll-up door is half open.

To ensure that your roll-up door’s performance is not compromised, clean it at least three times a year. The process is simple, but before you start, leave the roll-up door slightly open so that you can brush away any debris. By using a soft cloth or brush, you will prevent any scratching while ensuring that your door is kept in tip-top condition.

Then hose your door down to remove any additional dust or dirt you might have missed. However, make sure the water pressure is not too high to cause any damage. Next, focus on the spots that are harder to reach between the door’s slats and use soapy, warm water and a soft cloth to clean. Don’t forget to use a gentle detergent to protect the door’s surface.

The next step is to close the roll-up door and wipe it using an up-and-down motion. Then hose the door once again with water to remove any leftover dust, dirt, or soap. Finally, dry the industrial door with a dry, soft cloth.

Why is Cleaning Industrial Doors Essential?

To make sure that your commercial, residential property, or business is as protected as possible from any external threats, it is vital to keep up with industrial door maintenance. Dirt build-up should be kept to a minimum as much as possible. However, your door will inevitably be exposed to a lot of dirt and dust over the years. Without a good clean, you risk your industrial door being damaged in time through scratching or mechanisms not performing at their best. That can cause them to get jammed, and if that happens, you might not be able to guarantee that your goods are secure.

A crucial reason you should clean and maintain your industrial door properly is to comply with fire regulations. In fact, there is a legal imperative to ensure your emergency doors are in perfect condition.

Then again, you wouldn’t want a dirty and scratched door to be a poor advertisement for your business. A poorly performing or dirty-looking industrial door might cause bad user experiences for your employees, clients, customers, or investors. If your industrial doors scrape to a halt altogether, clients and visitors may turn on their heels and leave.

Final Words

Alongside regularly giving your industrial door a good clean-up, it is also essential to keep up with all maintenance to ensure your premises are protected. Even the most robust industrial door can be exposed to accidents or wear and tear over time, but providing constant maintenance will ensure that you are not compromising on security. As a bottom line, maintaining your door’s health and longevity is essential for your property’s appearance or reputation and your business and long-term success.
