Tips for Creating a Dog-Friendly Backyard
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A dog is a man’s best friend and should be treated like royalty. Providing them with an outdoor space where they can run and play while still being safe and secure is the perfect way to show them how much you care.

If you are considering adding an outdoor space for your pup but don’t know where to start, here are tips from expert landscapers that will help start you on creating a dog-friendly backyard.

1. Add a Fence

One of the first things you will want to do is add a fence around your yard. This will not only keep your dog safe and secure but also keep unwanted animals out. You can also add gates into the fence so they can enter and exit when they need to go outside.

The fence should be at least six feet high but go with a taller one. This will help keep your dog safe from any predators lurking in the neighborhood. You will also want to ensure that the fence has no gaps or holes that could allow small animals to squeeze through.

2. Backyard Water Bowl

If your dog is outside for long periods, you must provide them with a fresh water bowl. You can find plastic at pet stores or make one yourself out of a large bottle or even a trash can.

3. Hydrant-Style Water369 Feature

Dogs love to play in the water, which can be a great way to keep them cool on hot days. You can easily create a hydrant-style water feature with PVC pipe, a valve, and some concrete. Attach the pipes and put them into the ground, where they will stay nice and sturdy.

4. Dogs Love Grass.

You can create a patch of grass in your backyard for your dog to play on. Choosing an area that gets plenty of sun and water regularly is best. If you do not have the space for a full lawn, try planting smaller flowers or vegetables that are easy to grow. Contact us to get the best turf for dogs.

5. Shade Is Important.

If you live in a hot climate, provide your dog shade. You can plant trees or bushes around the perimeter of your yard or create an umbrella-style canopy from PVC pipe and fabric.

Trees and bushes can provide a nice place for your dog to sit in the shade, but ensure no poisonous plants are within reach. If you have no trees or bushes in your yard, try planting smaller flowers or vegetables that are easy to grow.

6. Add Some Dog-Friendly Furniture.

You can create a comfortable place for your dog to sit and relax. Also, you can make a small dog bed or purchase one from the store. If you want something more elaborate, consider building an outdoor bench with extra storage space for pet supplies.

7. Hide The Pool.

If you have a swimming pool, keep it hidden from your dog. You can build a fence around the perimeter of your yard or place an opaque cover over the top of your pool.

You can also invest in a pool alarm system alerting you when your dog enters the water. This will help keep him from drowning.

8. Get Them Good Toys In Backyard

Pets can get bored as people do. They may be tempted to chew on furniture or other household items if they are left alone all day. Provide your dog with toys he/she can play with and chew on if he gets bored. This will prevent him from destroying things around your home.

Final Words

If you want your dog to enjoy the outdoors with you, you must provide him with a safe environment. By following the above tips, you can create a yard that is fun for your dog and enjoyable for the entire family.
