How to Convincingly Fake a Kitchen Renovation
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

When it comes to renovating a kitchen, it’s no secret that it can be incredibly costly and time-consuming. However, if you don’t have the budget to completely redo your kitchen, this doesn’t mean that you can’t make it look like you have. Here are a few ideas to help you convincingly fake a kitchen renovation.

Change Up Your Light Fittings

There are two ways in which you can experiment with new lighting – by switching up the lights themselves, or by getting a new lampshade. A new covering can make even the oldest lights look brand new.

It’s amazing how much installing new lighting can completely transform a room. It brings focus to new areas of the room, and shadows will fall in a brand new way. Even the shape and colour warmth of the bulb can have a transformative effect on the room, so don’t be afraid to experiment with the different lighting options available to you.

Upcycle Your Cabinets

Instead of investing in brand new cabinets, upcycle the ones you already have. Perhaps you might paint the doors of the cabinets to contrast with your walls. Or, simply swapping out the knobs and handles to new or reclaimed ones can give the impression of brand new cabinets.

If you are looking for floating open shelving, you can fake that too. Take the doors off your cabinets, and paint the back of each alcove to match the wall. Then, varnish or paint the shelves in an accent colour, and voila, you can live your floating open shelving dream!

Invest in Some New Gadgets

You’d be surprised how much new gadgets can give the impression of a brand new kitchen, especially when they are placed on display for everyone to admire. In particular, stand mixers and coffee making machines can make a huge impact on both the aesthetics of the kitchen and, of course, your taste buds too!

In addition, you can get some fantastic deals on matching toasters, kettles, and microwaves. Try to match the material to either the metal of your oven, hob, and extractor, or to your chosen accent colour, and make them part of your display.

Add in a Backsplash

Rather than repainting or retiling the entire room, how about simply installing a backsplash? Not only will this mean you protect your wall against splashing, but it will also give the impression you have completely redecorated.

Tiling a small area is quite achievable with some DIY skills, but you can also get self-adhesive temporary backsplashes if you prefer.

Don’t Forget to Accessorise

And last, but by no means least, remember the accessories! This is one of the quickest, easiest, and cost-effective ways to add decorative elements to your kitchen. If you have open shelving, one of the most popular techniques is to invest in storage jars that are both decorative and functional.

Display decorative bowls and plates on your counters, filling them with potpourri, candles, or even fresh fruit. And, if you have the space, prop chopping boards and paintings on the wall at the back of your counters.

Final words

With these ideas in mind, you can give your kitchen a new lease of life without needing to undertake an extensive renovation.
