How To Organize Before Your Moving Day?

Moving brings about a roller coaster of emotions. There’s that excitement of moving to another place and a bit of sadness of leaving this place you once called home. On top of all that, there’s all the stress and anxiety of getting everything ready before the big day. Juggling the variety of moving tasks you’re facing isn’t easy, and without an organization system, your move will never be as seamless as it should be.

Fortunately, moving nowadays is easier than it has been many years back. Movers are equipped with so much more up-to-date equipment for an efficient move. But you have to be sure you’re choosing the right movers. From your end, organizing for a move may involve running lists through your mind, going through each day as it is, and being confident that nothing will go wrong. It’s challenging to stay on top of that list, but it’s doable.

Staying organized before that big moving day is possible with this great moving guide.

5 Tips to Organize Before Your Moving Day?

1. Prepare Ahead

Moving is a big thing, whether it’s just to the next town, or even more so when you’re going overseas. This isn’t something you can hope to ‘wing it’ at the last minute. A successful and smooth move takes a lot of planning, which you should ideally prepare for as soon as possible.

The sooner you start packing and preparing for the move, the less you’ll feel stressed and pressured about the time left before moving day. With all the factors to consider, it’s safe to say that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to this, except a unanimous agreement on the need to prepare ahead.

2. Create Your Checklists

With all the details and tasks that come with moving, having a system is crucial. Note that it’s not just the move you’ll be busy with. On top of that are your daily routine and obligations you must complete, with managing a household and your job. Checklists are a tried-and-tested method to avoid any confusion. Moreover, with a checklist, you can finish something every day and don’t skip or miss out on anything important.

Sit down and think thoroughly about what your moving checklist should have. You can get inspired by other checklists you’ll find on the internet, but don’t forget to adjust and tweak them according to your needs.

3. Declutter Before Moving Day

Before you even start packing boxes, it’s best to purge and declutter. You may not need to bring everything with you to your next house. When you declutter, you can finally let go of items that need to be thrown away and sell or donate all the other useful things you no longer have any use for.

The less you bring to your move, the better. Not only will this equate to a lesser need to pack, but it also translates to reduced moving expenses. When you arrive, you can use the proceeds from your sold items to buy new ones in your new home.

4. Pack Room By Room

Packing systematically could mean you should do it by room so your move stays organized before and after moving day. The whole point behind this is that when you tackle one room at a time, it’s easier to label each box by room. That way, upon arriving in your new home, the movers will also know where to place each container, according to the label.

This is a system that may work best for you, as it speeds everything up. Furthermore, you’ll feel like you have much more control over your move when you see some progress, one room at a time. It gives you the motivation to keep going, even if it only means being able to do a part of your room for each day.

5. Schedule Visits Of Utility Companies Upon Arrival

A chunk of all the prep work for moving has much to do with your physical belongings. Once you’ve finished packing those, you’re left to face the other factor: the utilities. Upon arrival in your new home, you should slowly feel settled, where you’re not stuck facing the situation of not having electricity or water for the next week.

That said, be sure to have those covered long before moving day. If you’ll be around the house to visit days before, plan for the electricity, water, Internet, and cable providers to visit during that time. Or, you can have those visits scheduled upon your arrival as well.

The Bottomline

Moving can be very stressful, but it can be a smooth and easy process when you know what and what not to do. The tips above are only a few, but they’re helpful for a sense of order in your entire move. When you think about moving in its entirety, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed with everything that falls in between. But, when you take it one task at a time, one day at a time, you’ll approach moving day more confidently.
